On March 10, 2021, Charlene was greeted at the gates of heaven by her Lord and Savior, husband Enis and her son Shannon.
Family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Sunday March 14, 2021 at Kinney-Underwood Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Monday March 15, 2021 at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Stamford. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.
Charlene was born on June 15, 1923, in Floyd County Texas to Claude and Stella (Childress) Leach. She graduated from Haskell High in 1941. Promptly after graduation she was employed by First National Bank of Stamford. She married Enis Bishop from Rule on March 16, 1944 in Haskell Texas. The next 40 years were spent living and working together in Stamford. In 1951 she started working for Upshaw & Upshaw Insurance until she and Enis started Bishop Electric in 1957. In 1970 they opened Dice Ice which they ran until the death of Enis in 1984. At the same time she was also employed by Jones County as Deputy Tax Collector for 29 years.
She had been a member of the First Baptist Church since 1949 until she moved to Alabama. She moved to Alabama in June 2017 to live with her daughter and son in law Mitzi and Randy Grantham. She was a former member of the Pierian Club and the Garden Club in which she had been president for both clubs.
Family surviving Charlene are her daughter and son-in-law Mitzi and Randy Grantham of Northport Alabama. Grandsons Charles (Teri) Grantham of Northport, Matthew Grantham and Shelley Milner of Tuscaloosa, Eric (Melissa) Grantham of Northport, Curtis (Summer) Bishop of Stephenville Texas and granddaughter Melanie Bishop of Stamford, Texas. Great-Grandson Hunter Grantham, Nathaniel Grantham, Carson Grantham all of Northport Alabama, Great Granddaughter Lilly Grantham of Northport Alabama. Everett Bishop of Stephenville Texas.
Preceding Charlene in death were her husband of 40 years Enis Bishop, Shannon Bishop, great-grandson Ethan McKay Grantham. Her parents Claude Leach, Stella Leach Campbell and her step father Homer Campbell, two sisters Chrystelle Hawkins, and Jean Weaver.
