Carol Parker

Carol Booth Dunn Parker, age 88, of Tuscaloosa, took her Heavenly flight on Saturday evening, February 13, 2021, at Heritage Health Care Nursing Home. Funeral Service will be on Friday, February 19, 2021, at 11:00 AM, at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home, South, 6100 Old Greensboro Road, Tuscaloosa, Alabama 25405. Rev. Mark Aills, Rev. James Walker, and Rev. Bernie Deffinger will officiate.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM.

Carol was born April 2, 1932, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to Bealy Pratt Booth and Gladys Ida Turner Booth, both of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Carol was born again May 1996, at Tuscaloosa First Church of the Nazarene, following a Sunday Morning sermon by Rev. Bernie Deffinger.  She was baptized by him on October 20, 1996, and then on April 4, 1999, she joined the fellowship of Tuscaloosa First Church of the Nazarene.

Carol’s favorite book was the Holy Bible, favorite Chapter of the Bible was Psalm 23, and her favorite songs were “Amazing Grace,” and “When We All Get to Heaven.” In addition to gospel music, she enjoyed listening to country music. Her favorite colors were green and pink, and her favorite flower was rose. Carol enjoyed raising chickens, and working in her vegetable garden. She loved working Word Search Puzzles, cooking, and visiting with friends and family. She especially enjoyed being a “granny" to her grandkids and great-grandkids. Carol loved her Sunday School Class taught by Frank Whitbeck. She would take Mr. Whitbeck and her best friend, Mary Teer, every Tuesday to visit our church shut-ins in their homes and nursing homes. Carol use to always cook large meals so she would have enough left-overs to take to shut-ins. She also loved preparing food for, and staying to help serve meals to families following funerals, and would stay around to help clean up afterwards, even when she was hurting in body too much to do so.

Carol went to Buhl Elementary from 1st - 6th grades (1938-1944); Buhl High School from 7th-10th grades (1944-1948), and Tuscaloosa County High in the 11th grade (1948-1949). Because of the death of her dad, Carol quit school to work and help her mother pay the bills. She eventually got her GED. Carol was employed by Harco Drugstore in Tuscaloosa as a Soda Fountain Manager. She liked to tell how the famous University of Alabama Football Player, Joe Namath, would always try to get her to wait on only him, but she let him know quick that was not going to happen, and that her policy was “first come, first served.” Carol was a Charge-Aide at Brice Hospital for 27 ½ years, beginning in 1965, and retiring in 1992.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Bealy Pratt Booth and Gladys Ida Turner Booth; her grandparents, Elige & Etta Turner; her grandparents, Alvin & Alabama Daniel Booth; her daughter & her husband Linda Dunn Dockery (Jerome); her brothers, Billy Horace Booth, and Travis Leon Booth; and her sister Mary Jo Booth Channell.

Survivors include her sons, Kenneth L (Santha) Dunn, and Rex Alan Dunn; Grandsons, Michael Jerome (Candace) Dockery, and K “Lee" Dunn, Jr; Granddaughters, Monica Dunn Sobol, and Brittany Carol Dockery; great-grandkids, David & Luke Pierce, and Camden Dockery, a sister, Myrtle Booth Perkins; nieces, nephews, and cousins, and many friends, all of whom she loved very much.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the “church building fund" of Tuscaloosa First Church of the Nazarene.
