Carl Thomas Guin, of Tuscaloosa, AL, was born on December 21, 1934, and passed away on August 8, 2022, at home surrounded by his loving family. A celebration of life service, officiated by Reverend Mark McGee, will be held at Magnolia Chapel South on Friday, August 12, at 3:00 p.m. with visitation an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow immediately after at Memory Hill Gardens. Magnolia Chapel South is directing.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Cleeland Jackson and Ethel Graham Guin.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 64 years, Glenda Stephens Guin; his three daughters, Carla Gillespie, Becky (Bubba) Steward and Kim Spivey; grandchildren, Bradley Steward, Brandi (Matthew) Fox, Morgan Gillespie, Graham (Taylor) Gillespie, Miller, Hudson (Madison) and Ellie Mac Spivey; great-grandchildren, Berklee and Beckett Steward, Sky Porter and Layton Gillespie.
Carl retired as the Division Engineer from the Alabama Department of Transportation in 1998, where he worked for 45 years. Carl was a loving and faithful husband, father and popaw. He had a strong work ethic and a great desire to take care of his family. He enjoyed spending time with his loved ones, being outdoors on the family farm, Alabama athletics and fishing. He was a very good athlete in his younger years and always enjoyed a good game of basketball in the driveway at home. It wasn’t unusual for a neighborhood kid to knock on the door asking if he could come out and play.
Pallbearers will be Bubba and Bradley Steward, Miller and Hudson Spivey, Graham Gillespie, Matthew Fox, Ricky Latham and Tim Thompson.
Honorary pallbearers are L.E. and Ruth Bridges, Linda Weathers, James Ray, Boyd Stripling, Ernestine Lancaster, Greg Gillespie, Dr. Gene Alldredge, Betty Guin, Jason Guin, Dick and Jane Boyd, and his caretakers from Amedisys Hospice.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Amedisys Foundation.
