Bruce Elmer Green SAMANTHA | Bruce Elmer Green passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 of natural causes. He was born on December 27, 1928 to Victor and Alma Holloway Green. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Helen Dunn and Ruby Freeman; infant brother, David; his son, Gary; and his parents-in-law, Lester and Gracie West. He is survived by his wife of64 years, Louise West Green, daughter, Diane Jones; sons, Norman (Wanda), Dale (Belinda) and Harold (Joi); 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; brother, Dewey Green; sisters, Mildred Rasmussen and Sue Ellison; and a host of nieces and nephews. Bruce was a dedicated, hardworking man who loved to garden and raise cattle. He served in the United States Marine Corp as a Corporal during World War II, after which he worked at B.F. Goodrich, retiring after 44 years of service. Bruce was a lifelong member of Haygood Methodist Church and belonged to several community clubs, including the Mason Lodge # 906, the Domino Club and the Northside Lions Club. For several years, he served as manager of the senior citizens "Pickin and Grinin'' weekend dance. He also was a troop leader for the Boy Scouts of America in the Samantha community. What Bruce will mostly be remembered for is his dedication to the Tuscaloosa County Little League Association, where he served as president for several years and coached at Northside. He loved nothing more than to give his time to mentoring young ballplayers, spending countless days making sure young boys got the chance to play ball, constantly giving them encouragement to excel in life. Bruce will be remembered for giving 100 percent to all he ever achieved, constantly in motion, with a stem voice always filled with encouraging words. His greatest joys in life were being surrounded by his family. Services will be held Saturday, December 19, 2015, at Haygood Methodist Church in Samantha at 11:00 a.m. with visitation being held one hour prior. Officiating the service will be Rev. George Jackson, Rev. Jerry Montgomery and Pastor Frances Collins. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Chris Green, Chad Green, Corey Green, Chan Green, Trey Green, Marty Green, Eric Green, Joseph Green and Jason Green and nephews, Berneal Ellison and Tony Green. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Jennie Lipscomb, Dr. Douglas Reynolds and Northside community friends and neighbors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Haygood Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.
