Bill Jack Brewer

“Just a closer walk with Thee, Grant it, Jesus, is my plea…” This was the heart cry of Bill Jack Brewer, 90, as he led his family alongside his first wife, Nell, of 50 years. He was called Home on November 9, 2023. To walk with Jesus leads to a lifestyle of service. Bill served his country in the Korean War, he served his church as a deacon, and he served his family by providing for them and leading them. He served his friends by offering them time. Whether they were sitting on the back porch playing dominoes or a hand of cards, Bill excelled in relationships. He invested in his family starting with his siblings and his children to his great-grandchildren. He loved well and was well-loved. The longtime Northport resident’s secret was “daily walking close to Thee.”

Bill was preceded in death by his first wife, Nell; his parents Ola Henry and Pearl Brewer; his sister Faye Hollingsworth and his brothers John and J.H. Brewer.

Bill is survived by his second wife, Betty; his children Larry Brewer (April) and Anita McClure (Dean); his grandchildren Adam Brewer (Lindsay), Kristi Cochran (Charles), Marc Brewer (Kelsi), Heath Bagi (Blair), Taylor Bagi (Brittany), Ashley Maddox (Justin), Justin Tu (Margaret), Caitlyn Hudson (Chase), Austin McClure, and Tyler McClure; his 13 great-grandchildren and his sister Jean Leonard.

The celebration of Bill’s life will take place at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 15 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive visitors at 10:00 a.m. Dr. Adam Brewer will preside over the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Legion located at 3419 Universal Heights Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404.
