Betty Joyce Banks Smith Richie TUSCALOOSA | Betty Joyce Banks Smith Richie, age 73, of Tuscaloosa, died Sept. 2, 2014, at home. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014, at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South with Johnny Ray officiating. Burial will follow in Scottsville Union Cemetery in Centreville with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. She was preceded in death by her father, John Daniel Banks; stepfather, Henry Banks; mother, Mertie Channell Banks; ex-husband, Clyde Smith; husband, James L. Richie; son, Tony Joe Smith; stepsons, Mike Richie and Larry Richie; sister, Nellie Ruth Banks Parker; brothers, James Edward Banks, Jimmy Banks, Billy Banks, Paul Banks, Henry Sailors and Vester Sailors. Survivors include her daughters, Barbara DeWever (Chad), Cathy Nash (Mike), Carol Braughton (Terry), and stepdaughter Janet Richie Henninger (Scott) ; stepson, Charles Richie; sisters, Peggy Adams Banks (Bruce) and Mary Sailors Mitchell (David); grandchildren, Jason Smith (Kelly), Jeremy Smith, Scarlet Smith Scoggins (James), Zachary Smith (mom) (Kelly), Andy Nash (Dustin), John Tidmore (Lindsey), Cody Ryan Tidmore, Marnie Hathcock, Joseph Hathcock; Caitlin DeWever, Bradley Braughton (Cassady), and Chad Lee Braughton (Laura); and great-grandchildren, Tanner Smith, Carson Smith, Petyon Scoggins, Grant Scoggins, Kayla Scoggins, Preston Scoggins, Brylee Tidmore, Tyler Watson, Camden Watson, A.J. Hulskotler, Devin Hulskotler, Carson Braughton and Mason Braughton. She was a loving mother and grandmother and a person that was always there for you. Granny had a big heart for her family and the Lord. Granny is now in Heaven and suffering no more. We will always love our Granny. Pallbearers will be Jason Smith, Joseph Hathcock, Jonathan Tidmore, Jeremy Smith, Brad Braughton, Chad Braughton, and Cody Tidmore. Honorary pallbearers are Hospice of West Alabama, Michelle Davis, and Jerry and Debbie Trimm.
