Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman F. and Birdie Sue Luker; her husband, James R. "Jimmy" Jones; and grandson, Ty Sellers Jones. Survivors include her sons, James N. "Jim" Jones and Timothy "Scott" Jones; sister-in-law, Shirley Jones Rice; brother, Jerry R. Luker (Robin); brother-in-law, David Jones (Margaret); and grandchildren, William James "Will" Jones, John David Jones and Andrew Thomas Jones. Betty graduated from Tuscaloosa High School (Black Bears) and later graduated from the University of Alabama. She was initially a teacher but her true calling was social work and especially the support and protection of children. She lived a full and happy life. She was an avid fisherwomen and loved catching bream and and crappie. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren play baseball, football and basketball. She taught Sunday School while her health allowed. She also loved her "red hat friends" and apparently playing "bunko", whatever that may be. She was a staunch Christian and seemed to live by the teaching of Matthew 25:31-40 (Look it up). If anything positive can come from death, Betty would want to encourage her fellow cancer victims. Remember this was the fifth time she's had cancer over 30 years. She beat it four times. Her wish would be, if you or a loved one and dealing with cancer, it is not a death sentence. She would want all afflicted with this disease to continue to fight and pray. Keep in mind by her example, it can be beat. Thanks for all the love and support shown to her and her family. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephews. Honorary pallbearers are Hospice of West Alabama, Faye and Lewis Manderson Cancer Center, First Weslyn Church, Coker Baptist Church, DCH Physical Therapy Department and many anonymous friends and neighbors.
