Royce Kirkland

Royce Kirkland, age 84, of Northport, Alabama, passed away October 19, 2023 at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 23, 2023, at Magnolia Chapel North with Bro. Rusty Selman officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 23, 2023, at Magnolia Chapel North.

Survivors include his wife, Fay Edmonson Kirkland; daughter, Cindy Kirkland Randall (Joe); sons, Wallace Kirkland (Karen) and Keith Kirkland; sister, Jewel Whatley; brother, James Kirkland (Mary); grandchildren, Allison Randall Dinwiddie (Forrest), Joseph Randall (Abby), Erin Randall Jones (Andrew), Alex Kirkland (Morgan), and Samuel Kirkland (Amber); and great-grandchildren, Emily Jo Dinwiddie, Wyatt Dinwiddie, Maggie Randall, Virginia Randall, and Henry Kirkland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Eunice Kirkland; and brothers, Hollis Kirkland and Horace Kirkland.

Royce spent his career with Flowers Industries, eventually becoming plant president at the Tuscaloosa Bakery. He was known as the “bread man” – a title he wore with pride. Royce loved playing cards and dominoes with family and friends, especially the weekly dominoes games with his church pals. Royce’s faith was an important aspect in his life. He served in many capacities including deacon, Sunday School director and teacher. He also enjoyed driving the church van for the retirement community. He made sure that his family knew of his personal faith and expressed that to each of them. He was always ready to listen and offer advice when asked. Royce’s absolute love and joy was Fay, his children, grandchildren, and wonderful great-grandkids. “Pop” as he was known to his grandsons, and “Poppa” to the granddaughters, always had an abundance of love, time, and attention for each of them.

Pallbearers will be Alex Kirkland, Samuel Kirkland, Joseph Randall, Forrest Dinwiddie, Andrew Jones, and Brett Kirkland.

Honorary pallbearers are Members of the Good Shepherd Sunday school class.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Northwood Hills Baptist Church, Caring Days, and/or Hospice of West Alabama.
