Thurman "Doc" Holloway NORTHPORT Thurman "Doc" Holloway, age 83, of Northport, passed away peacefully June 29, 2012, at home surrounded by family and loved ones after a brief illness. Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Campground Church with Rev. Frances Prickett, Rev. George Jackson, and Rev. Ralph Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellen and Oscar Holloway, three sisters, and four brothers. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Marguerite "Geat" Holloway; his sisters, Gladys Farley and Dollie Miller; his sister-in-law, Inez Williamson; numerous nieces and nephews; and his cherished pets, Tiger and Charlie. Doc enjoyed his 26 years working at Northside High School. After his retirement, growing and sharing from his bountiful vegetable garden was a joy, especially his tomatoes and beans. He loved playing the piano and violin and built several violins. He loved people and treasured all his family, friends, and neighbors. Doc loved sharing his faith and the love of the Lord. He took pride in being a member and attending Campground Church. We will miss our friend, but heaven rejoices at his homecoming. Pallbearers will be Blake Booth, David Cannon, Todd Gilliam, Bobby Herndon, Scott Herndon, Robert Simmons, John E. Walker IV, and Edwin Williamson. Honorary pallbearers are friends of Northside, Samantha, and the surrounding communities, staff of Hospice Complete, and Dr. Stephen Browne.
