Arnold Rayford Blanton, Sr., age 83 of Tuscaloosa, passed away March 12, 2020 at Hospice of West Alabama. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2020, at 11:00 am at Cottondale United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Herron and Rev. Jeremiah Wilson officiating and Magnolia Chapel South directing.
He is preceded in death by his wife Barbara Blanton, parents; Oscar and Irene Blanton, brother; Edgar Blanton, sisters; Nadine Brown, Lureda "Reda" Crowe, Galera Morgan and Hilda Davis.
Survivors include his sons; Arnold "Chip" Blanton, Jr. (Corrine), Ron "Ronnie" Blanton (Rosemyra), Barry Blanton (Melisa), sister; Linette Davis, grandchildren; Chad, Julie, Blair, Ashley, Kaley, Cruz, Braden, Brody, and seven great grandchildren.
Arnold was born in Berry, Alabama to Oscar and Irene Blanton on July 6, 1936. He graduated from Berry High School at age 16. He married Barbara Kay Blanton on September 27, 1958 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Arnold worked in sales until he retired in his early seventies. He enjoyed golfing with friends. He also enjoyed University of Alabama sports. For many years, he and Barbara attended Alabama gymnastics meets. He worked at all Alabama football home games for over 18 years. Arnold had an easy smile and enjoyed people and telling a good joke. He enjoyed learning and worshiping at Sunday school and church. He volunteered at Druid City Hospital with the valet parking service. Arnold was loved and will be missed by family and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations to Hospice of West Alabama.
