Annie "Ann" Holcomb Rice, age 90, of Northport, Alabama, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2024 at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 25, 2024, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist with Rev. Ralph Rice officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Magnolia Chapel North directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, L.V. and Annie Lois Holcomb; her husband, Rayburn Thomas Rice; sisters, Mary Patterson, Ruth Drennen, Marjoe Rice, Ella West, Reba Holcomb; brothers, Wilford Holcomb, Lenard Holcomb, Floyd Holcomb.
She is survived by her daughters, Laurie Rice, Jacky Doss(Jerry); sister, Juanita Smith; grandchildren, Scott Doss(Stephanie), Perry D. Harrison(Jacob); great grandchildren, Grace Bennett, Bryar Butler, Chase Harrison, Chloe Harrison; numerous nieces and nephews; and other surviving in-laws, Aaron Rice(June), Betty Wheelus, Ralph Rice(Sally), Joyce Holcomb.
She was born on April 15, 1934 in Walker County. She was the 6th of 10 children. She graduated from Gorgas High School in 1951. She obtained an associate degree from Shelton State Community College in 1980, where she received the "Outstanding Student in Speech" award. She was proud of learning computer skills and would bring home her projects to be admired.
She married Rayburn Thomas Rice on November 17, 1951 and had two daughters. She spent her life in dedication to her family, assisting them in all their endeavors from timing twirling routines, to catching baseball in full catcher's gear, to skiing at Lake Tuscaloosa, she was always eager to participate.
Friends and family knew her as an avid supporter of the Northside extra curricular activities and an active member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. She spent her career employed by the State of Alabama. First, she worked as a secretary at Northside High School from the time it opened until the 1970's. She finished her career in the Tuscaloosa Circuit Clerks Office, working in all 3 divisions. She retired in 2014 after over 50 years of service. Then she concentrated on enjoying her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Scott Doss, Jacob Harrison, Bill Rice, Albert West, Jarrod Rice and Bryar Butler.
