Allene C. Key, age 85, of Tuscaloosa, died Oct. 11, 2011, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. today at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South with Dr. Herb Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Big Sandy Cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South directing. Mrs. Key was born November 4, 1925, to Vessie W. and G. Robert Crawford. She was preceded in death by all of her sisters and brothers and her husband, James Key. Survivors include her daughters, Regena Kilgore (Tommy) and Jan Pierce (Wayne); her son, Randy Key (Sharon); her grandchildren, Kevin Kornegay, Miranda Parton (Homer), Brandon Pierce (Charli), Blake Kilgore, and Kacy Pierce; her first great-granddaughter, Amelia E. Parton; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her grandchildren referred to her as "AC" and Maw Maw. Her grandsons will be honored to serve as pallbearers, as will her sons-in-law, Tommy Kilgore, Wayne Pierce, and Mike Brown. Honorary pallbearers are staff and residents of Presbyterian Apartments, members and staff of Circlewood Baptist Church, Dr. Herb Thomas, nurses of DCH 5th Floor, Dr. Ross Vaughn, Dr. Jeff Brown, Chris Burroughs, her special friend Lillie V. Winters, and her three other "special" daughters, Suzanna Brown, Jo Yanko, and Robbie Tubbs. Allene was retired from K-Mart in Tuscaloosa. She was a former member of South Highlands Baptist Church, where she served and loved worshipping her Lord. She cherished the words, "The presence of God watches over me; wherever I am, God is." She later became a member of Circlewood Baptist Church and loved being in services until her health began to decline. She loved her deacon and the church tape ministry, both of which were so faithful to serve her and visit. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Big Sandy Cemetery Fund, 14086 Phares Hinton Rd., Tuscaloosa, AL 35405.
