Alice Beams

Alice Dean Sturdivant Beams, age 79, of Northport, went home to be with her Lord Nov. 10, 2011, peacefully in her sleep at home surrounded by her family. Services will be 2 p.m. today at Arbor Springs Baptist Church with Dr. Ted Sessoms officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church. She was preceded in death by her parents, J. Liston Sturdivant and Sallie Malone Sturdivant, and her brother, James Albert Sturdivant. Survivors include her husband, Verner Louis Beams; her daughters, Cathy Leonard (Larry) and Wanda Hallman (Ronnie); her sons, Wendell Beams and David Alan Beams; her brother, Buddy Sturdivant (Velma); her grandchildren, Cheryl Hannah (Rocky), James Haynie, Chad Leonard (Michelle), Wendy Fields (Bruce), and Candy Corkerin; her great-grandchildren, Cody Haynie, Anna Brooke Leonard, Brittney Leonard, Drew Leonard, Jadon Hannah, Carson Hannah, Trey Phillips, Clay Rosser, Cole Fields, Haleigh Fields, Austin Corkerin, Ayden Northam, and soon-to-be Abby Fields; and several nieces and nephews. Mother loved her family very much. They were her whole life. She served her church as Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher, Acteen teacher, WMU director, and in any other area in which she could serve. She will be greatly missed. Pallbearers will be Steven Sturdivant, Bruce Fields, Rocky Hannah, Cody Haynie, Jeff Beams, and Chad Leonard. Honorary pallbearers are Amedisys Hospice staff, Damon Rose, Leigh Harbin, Jamie Robertson, Cindy Trawiek, Stephanie Whitbeck, Kim Lapsley, Linda McKnight, Ken Swindle, Gayle Andrews, Tom Vaughn, Arbor Springs Baptist Church family, and Tabernacle Free Will Baptist Church community. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Arbor Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, 17482 Finnell Rd., Northport, AL 35475.
