Martha Boyles Parsons Dews
TUSCALOOSA - Martha Boyles Parsons Dews, known affectionately by those closest to her as “Grammy”, ‘slipped the surly bonds of earth’ on May 13th, 2018 at the age of 84. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Northport Baptist Church, Northport, Ala. with burial to follow at Williamson Cemetery in Northport, Ala. with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. A visitation will take place 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Tuesday May 15, 2018 at Northport Baptist Church.
Martha was preceded in death by her father and mother, Jessie Martin and Jewel Boyles; and her sister, Donna Boyles Robertson.
Grammy leaves behind a loving legacy of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren including her husband, John E. Dews Jr; children, John Parsons (Mitzi), Betsy Davis (Stephen Sr.) and Tammy Dews; her dearest friend, Janet Teer; her grandchildren, Stephen, Quinn, John Martin, Brooke and Daniel Davis; and her great-grandchildren Adelai and Isaiah Davis.
Martha was born and raised in Oxford, Ala., attending and graduating from Calhoun County High School. She moved with her first husband and two children to Northport, Ala. in 1966 where she was a resident for the remainder of her life.
Martha was an active member of Northport Baptist, singing in the choir and acting as the church music librarian. Grammy could be found most Sunday’s volunteering in the nursery, caring for children and spending countless hours rocking babies.
Fostering a home full of love and inclusion, Martha was “Grammy” to any who entered – all were welcome and all were fed. Her greatest loves in life were Jesus Christ and her family. From the trials of heartbreak to heroic battles against disease, Martha’s faith allowed her to endure for the glory of God and the joy of the family and friends she held so dear. Through the last moments of her life, Grammy would not be denied her family.
The family would like to thank Dr. George Miller of Tuskaloosa Internal Medicine; the staff at Hospice of West Alabama and the staff at Brookdale Assisted Living.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Davis, Jr., John Martin Davis, Daniel Davis, Mark Davis, Damon Ligon and Terry Jacobs.
Anyone wishing to make a donation in her memory are encouraged to contribute to Hospice of West Alabama, the American Cancer Society or the Arthritis Foundation.
